About Me

When my parents, peers, and coaches describe me, a common theme is my infectious personality. They also describe me as hard-working, kind, inclusive, and compassionate. I believe these words describe me best. My work ethic allows me to consistently achieve the high standards I set for myself. I value the quote: “Treat others the way you want to be treated,” because it illustrates the compassion I feel towards others. Typically, I am quite extroverted, and my friends would say that about me. However, I have a very gentle and reflective side that only my family and closest friends know about. This “quieter side” allows me to be steady and grounded, allowing me to reflect on myself and the world around me.

The most meaningful thing in my life is the sport of gymnastics. It was a huge part of my life as it shaped me into who I am today. I trained consistently for 20 hours/week, and found much pride and struggle in the sport. At times, gymnastics can be very stressful, frustrating, and painful. However, it is this very stress, frustration, and pain that drives me. I have a very competitive nature. As a gymnast, I won 3 provincial titles, competed internationally, and was nationally ranked amongst some of the best gymnasts in the country. I am driven to succeed because it allows me to continuously set bigger goals. The mental and physical challenges that gymnastics demands of me are things that define me as a person and are integral to my daily life.

As I transitioned into Engineering, I found great joy in the challenge of mentally and physically strenuous activities. Being able to excel in complex and difficult situations now comes naturally to me. Engineering continues to drive my complex nature and contribute to my endeavors to solve the world's biggest problems, inspire others, and learn from the best. As I look forward into the professional setting, I am working in the Nuclear Energy sphere, leading the nuclear renaissance to provide clean, reliable, and safe energy. Beyond this, entrepreneurship excites me. I am currently working on projects that help other engineering students navigate through the co-op program to land internships and apply their employable skills.

Education

2018-2021

Alberta High-School Diploma

Rundle College, Calgary, AB

At the University of Alberta, I completed my Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Mechanical Engineering ((With Distinction), accompanied by a certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship. I have developed the qualities to become a driven and grounded engineer when tackling the world's modern-day projects. With a concentration in mechanical systems, I can provide comprehensive knowledge of engineering concepts. I strive to become a curious, innovative, and complete engineer who is willing to learn and mature into a well-diversified employee.

At Rundle College where I completed my High-School diploma, I was taught the foundations for my academic career. The school created an environment that allowed me to challenge myself as I graduated with honors. The biggest takeaway from Rundle that was implemented into my life is its core values: Be Kind, Be Curious, and Be Well.

PROJECTS

Wax Thermostatic Coolant Valve

As the project lead, our team designed a fully mechanical thermostatic valve that regulates coolant flow based entirely on temperature for our client, Edison Motors. Approved by client constraints, our team achieved a solution that was able to withstand an operating pressure of 60+ psi, a pressure drop of only 3.3 psi, fail-safe mechanisms, and a final price of $65, well under the budget of $100. The success of the team propelled us to a 2nd place finish within the design competition.

Electric Motor Transmission Design Project

As the project manager for my project, I organized the team by scheduling meetings, recording minutes, and communicating with stakeholders. I led a team of five in designing a planetary gear system transmission for an electric school bus, focusing on achieving a 4:1 gear ratio. In addition to acting as the project manager, I performed a detailed motor analysis. Our iterative calculations showed the vehicle could reach 140 km/h on a 3-degree incline with 15 km/h headwinds. We rigorously adhered to AGMA standards, ensuring a safety factor of 3.0 across all critical components, including the shafts, gears, bearings, and housing. To cap off the project, I presented the final design to the class and professors at the University of Alberta, ensuring clear communication of our design objectives and technical rigor for logical and fun solution for a school bus transmission system.

Electric Motor Car Group Project

For this project, I cooperated with a team of 6 to design and build a mechanical, electrically driven car aimed to accomplish the task of safely securing, transporting, and depositing eggs through mechanical mechanisms. Together the team designed drawings and assembled SolidWorks parts to create a functioning car. We manufactured the parts through laser cutting, and hand pneumatic machinery. Unfortunately, we did not complete the task as we underestimated the slope of the ramp and failed to find the correct balance between torque, and friction with the wheels on the ground. Nonetheless, I learned so much through experience, as it taught me how to work as a group, and deal with other people, it introduced me to new ways of thinking, and hands-on experience I have never been given.
